Welcome to our World-Network

The United States military became one of the largest fighting forces in the world during World War 2 and the Cold War only served to solidify its place for decades to come. Its command structure can appear bewildering to some and, at times, it simply helps the reader to know the basic chain of command from the ground up or top down - whether on a professional or casual level. This page provides the visitor the available ranks of the four major American military branches of service (the Coast Guard falls under the banner of the Navy). Each rank is listed from lowest to highest in their respective chains of command and include applicable ranks, shoulder patches and quick links to the pay scale page.

The US Army maintains a long-standing tradition dating as far back as 1775 when the first companies of "riflemen" were formed by the Continental Congress. The branch went on to see notable and extensive combat actions in many of America's commitments including the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the War of 1812, World War 1, World War 2, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Grenada, Panama and the Gulf War of 1991. More recently, US Army personnel have been involved as part of the 2001 War in Afghanistan and the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. The branch is regarded as one of the most powerful in the world based on recent combat experiences, current equipment and training doctrine.
